Erika Mann: The political cabaret in the context of the then cabaret stages in Germany
Freundorfer, Jonas ; Markvartová, Eva (advisor) ; Tvrdík, Milan (referee)
This thesis deals with the life and work of Erika Mann and her political cabaret Die Pfeffermühle in the context of the German cabaret scene at that time. The aim of this work is to present Erika Mann's life and the four-year existence of her cabaret, while reflecting on their significance in the present day. The rise of the German cabaret scene at that time is presented through examples of the most significant cabarets such as Die Katakombe, Kabarett der Komiker, or Schall und Rauch. These had a substantial influence on the appearance of Erika Mann's cabaret, which operated as an artistic opposition against National Socialism from 1933 to 1937. A part of this work also includes the interpretation of selected texts from Die Pfeffermühle, providing an authentic insight into the political and societal situation of that time, with themes such as tolerance, justice, or equality that still remain relevant today. Both Erika Mann and the form of political cabaret have something to offer to society even today. This is demonstrated through the presentation of the performance Erika Mann? by the German-Czech cabaret Das Thema, which was introduced in 2021. Based on an interview with one of the performers, the production is analyzed in detail. The result of this analysis provides a complex portrait of Erika...

Political satire in Charlie Hebdo in relation to religion
Kaletová, Anna ; Matějka, Ondřej (advisor) ; Bauer, Paul (referee)
The topic of the bachelor's thesis is the political satire in Charlie Hebdo in relation to religion. In today's France political satire is represented by several newspapers, one of which is the satirical weekly Charlie Hebdo. The magazine, whose origins date back to 1970, specializes in news and cartoons regarding current world affairs, religion, politics and culture. The cartoons published in Charlie Hebdo soon became a rather controversial topic. For that reason, the authors of the magazine have had a number of conflicts with representatives of the muslim community over the years, with cartoons depicting the Prophet Muhammad becoming especially problematic. The difficulties manifested themselves both in the form of threatening letters, the burning of the Charlie Hebdo editorial office, and a terrorist assassination in 2015. The bachelor's thesis maps the history of political satire in France, the history of the magazine Charlie Hebdo and its conflicts with Islam. The aim of the paper is to find out whether the Charlie Hebdo cartoons depicting Islam are in any way specific compared to the images mocking the other two major religious groups, Christianity and Judaism. Using ethnographic content analysis, analysis of selected cartoons published in 2014 and their subsequent comparison, research...

Dvořáková, Anna ; Šoltys, Otakar (advisor) ; Láb, Filip (referee)
AbstractAbstractAbstractAbstract This thesis presents one of the first attempts to uncover and analyze the phenomenon of immediately apparent digital photomontage born and developed in the context of the Czech internet, that does not attempt to simulate a photographic reproduction of reality, but instead to regularly comment on political events of the Czech Republic. Using an analysis of photomontages of Teo Adamy (aTeo), the thesis explores their specific hybrid means of expression and the methods through which it completely fulfills the essence of pictorial commentary. Besides describing the creative basis and inspirational founts of the montage artist, it also provides an in-depth insight into the category of the so-called pseudofilm, a specific part of aTeo's internet production, that consists of photomontages feeding off the medium of film, using meaningful parallels in film stories and pop-cultural film references, or even directly inserts chosen political representatives into well-known film scenes and thus draws upon universal mythological structures activated by popular films. The Pseudofilm category is then subjected to a detailed analysis, whose output is a comprehensive description of aTeo's fictionally-realistic film-political photomontage and an understanding of specific features of its...
